Cube-ical, Nov 2017
I was inspired by a sculpture I saw on display by a department store and my coffee cup to make this quilt. I wanted to create a hand-drawn feel to the lines of the cubes, rather than perfect squares. The shadows from the sculpture inspired me to give each of the cubes here a “shadow” in the quilting.
I hand-painted the backing fabric.

I paper pieced this quilt, hand-dying the fabric to create an ombre effect to draw the viewer’s eye to the center. I wanted to create the feeling of one looking up from below, so I used perspective lines on the left and right side to create depth, and used the different sized “geese” in the middle to create distance.

Composition 1, Nov 2017
While cleaning, I found a postcard-sized painting I made 10 years ago while trying to design a business card for my piano studio. Though I never ended up using it for that purpose, I knew the moment I saw it that I had to make a quilt out of it. For the quilting, I wanted to keep with the theme and used the words of different musical genres and styles. On the back, I wrote the names of famous composers using fabric paint.
I made this for PMQG sister show 2018
